Looks like Jason Kidd is not going to Dalllas...Owner Mark Cuba said his team doesn't need him?

Cuban: Dallas won't trade for Kidd

On Sunday, Dallas owner Mark Cuban sent an e-mail to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that quelled Jason Kidd trade talk.

"We don't expect to do anything at all," Cuban wrote. The response was not as colorful as the one he sent to the Sporting News: "Step away from your crack dealer."

Seventeen days remain until the NBA trade deadline, and the Kidd talk will heat up in cities such as Dallas, Denver, Cleveland and possibly in Los Angeles with the Lakers.

If you want a reason to believe Cuban, consider this: He would not give Steve Nash a deal approaching the five-year, $65 million contract that Phoenix offered in 2004 because of concerns about Nash's health. Kidd turns 35 in March and stands to make $21.4 million next season before any possible extension, which Kidd reportedly expects to be in the $20 million-per-season range.

If NBA trade rumors always were true, Dallas would have Kidd, Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant by now.

Most teams either don't have the parts (attractive young players, draft picks without lottery protection and/or big expiring contracts) to make a Kidd deal with New Jersey or are unwilling to give up players, as Dallas is with Dirk Nowitzki, Josh Howard and maybe even Devin Harris.

Dallas still seems like the most likely destination, because it has the potential to satisfy Kidd and New Jersey. It might take a three-team deal.

Meanwhile, New Jersey has been awful and is clinging to the East's eighth playoff seed with a 20-27 record.

"Maybe it will be a distraction," Nets forward Richard Jefferson told the (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger, referring to the rumors. "Maybe it'll distract us from losing all these damn games."

Mark Cuban is talking out of his ***..
dont need him?? did you see the game last night CUBAN?

THAT GUY IS SUCH A DUMBASS
Wow, I don't think that they should trade Kidd, he's really good!! Who would want to trade him? I mean seriously!!
thats a loss on dallas's part i think. i could see a fair trade giving up howard, terry and some one off the bench.
He's coming to the Lakers for some Chili Fries and Coke!!
Cuban is crazy if he really thinks they don't need Jason Kidd. The only way they will ever win a championship is if they have a point guard the caliber of Kidd.
mavs were interested in kidd, but theyre not going to give up devin harris or josh howard in a deal. mavs have given devin harris the point guard position and hes still learning, and hes young. kidd has maybe 2 years left in him, so mavs would be giving up the future to try to win now. cubans making the right move, no reason to mess up the nucleus dallas has now.
I agree. I don't think the Nets wants to risk the future for Kidd.
This could just be a ploy to lower the asking price from the Nets.
